June 2008
Hello visitors! It has been very, very slow in gerbildom lately...primarily I feel it is due to the rising cost of gasoline (and everything else). Due to this, I have been receiving very few calls and requests about gerbils. I have relocated some of my breeding animals to local families who I am working closely with, so, my lines are still going...just not here at home. I have been very busy with other endeavors currently and I do not have the time to dedicate to a full breeding program. However, pups are expected out of some of my lines within a few weeks. I will keep you up to date. You are always welcome to send me an email!

Happy, healthy Gerbils
At Star of Texas Gerbils, I want to provide you with a well-socialized, healthy, and happy gerbil. I handle babies from very early on so that they are used to having lots of human contact. I am a small-scale gerbil breeder located in East Texas. I was a veterinary assistant in a practice who saw the majority of the exotic animals in our area prior to starting my kennel, so I have a wealth of experience with animal handling and care.
I am now taking in limited numbers of rescues and animals in need of new homes. I will post them on the site after they have been adequately quarantined and ready to be placed. If you need help finding your pet a new home, feel free to contact me through my Contact page.
I am always happy to answer any questions you may have :)
I hope you enjoy my site!
Who says you can't buy happiness?
One of the best attributes of gerbils is that they seem to have a pleasant, fun-loving attitude. Whether they are voraciously chewing cardboard, running in a wheel, or madly digging in a corner of their cage, they exude a feeling of "joie de vivre" (enjoyment of life). Should you choose to invite gerbils into your home, I think you will agree. But it doesn't stop there...
There are many positives to gerbil ownership! When compared to other rodents, they emit very little odor and can typically go a week or so without changing the litter (depending on cage size/litter used). They, unlike hamsters, are active during the day, and aren't too grumpy if they do get woken up during the daylight hours. I believe when compared with most small rodents, with the exception of rats, they are much more interactive with their human caretakers and they will actually run over to your hand to see what you are doing. They may even run up your arm, too! Their curiosity always seems to get the best of them, and they can't help but investigate whatever is going on. Also, while they certainly enjoy human interaction daily, it is not a requirement that they be handled on a daily basis to remain tame. This is very important for those of us who don't have the time required for a larger pet such as a dog or cat, but want something more interactive than fish!

We adopted 4 new adorable furballs through Jo of Black Wolf Clan in Missouri. We now have a Schimmel male, a dove female and her PEW sister, and BWC's Winter Dreams "Frosty"; who is the mother of the 2007 AGS Midwest Best of Show winner, "Kaden"! We are very excited about the new potential offspring! You can see their pictures on our gerbil page. We will be sure to keep you updated on any pairings and litters.
